Pushing Power: The potential new meta

So meta changes all the time. Everyday old champions no one used are added back into rotation when someone tries something new with them that blows people away. Meta also changes because of Riot, with their patches, hotfixes, reworks, and new champion additions.

Well if you haven’t read it here’s a recent post by Riot, stating that they want to change the way sustain ability and healing works. Essentially nerfing it into the ground because it makes a boring farm fest for the first 20 minutes.

But if there is one thing I know about gamers it is that they hate developers and being told how to play the game. So I anticipate them coming up with clever ways to farm for 20 minutes and still be boring as all hell.

So they’ve stated they want to stop healers in the bot lane. They’ve already started nerfing solo sustain in the top lane with Warwick, Irelia, Swain, Yorick, and will probably continue nerfing it.

And after the Intel Extreme Masters where Team Solo Mid were building 3 Wriggles on 3 different players, I’d bet money that wriggles lantern gets nerfed too.

So how do I see players potentially combat this issue of less sustainability? With pushing power. It’s a strategy they already use, but it is going to get a lot bigger.

A lot of the champions you see played today have a lot of pushing power naturally. But what exactly is pushing power? Basically is the ability to kill 6 out of 6 minions per wave with 1 or 2 spells. Even more minions after laning phase ends, you know those big bubbles of minions that hit the base turrets and you walk over and clear them in one shot, yeaaaa that what im talking about.

Champions like Brand, Orianna, Mordekaiser, Corki, Tristana, these are the guys that push and do it well.

Now Riot wants to nerf sustainability, this will hopefully increase the rate of death in laning phase, which would hopefully make live games at tournaments more exciting. Unfortunately for Riot, pros don’t like losing or dying so they aren’t going to want to play in a way that is more exciting. Instead what I believe is going to happen is you are going to see more champions that can kill waves fast and then run back and turret hug until the next wave comes. Hell, if you are solo top, you can kill an entire wave, go back to your base and buy items and make it back before the next wave hits. If you have ever watched Dyrus play top lane Mordekaiser then you know what I’m talking about.

If all the sustain nerfs are really so bad and this little idea of mine about both teams pushing the lane hard then retreating becomes real, then I think we are going to see a lot of new champs hit the line up. I say this because, if all you need to do is push, then there is an item that can help you, the legendary Tiamat.

I respectfully disagree. Nerfing sustain decreases the likelihood that you will want to waste spells on minions to wipe them out and push the lane. Instead, focusing on harass and zoning will become the dominant strategy, starving out people who push the lane.

Pushing champs are definitely strong and could easily become stronger with the changes to sustain, but as least as far as the carry-support bot lane is concerned, I think damndirtycat is right.
Interestingly enough, there was quite a showing of Kog’Maw and Urgot in the recent IEM tournament, and they did generally well. If you look at the championship match, the team with Kog/Urgot won every game (not proof of anything, but still interesting). Even before the nerfs to Soraka/Taric, the ability to harass in the bot lane is proving to still be useful, and will only be accentuated by these nerfs.

Yeah, zoning will become a bigger focus. With these heavy sustain champs zoning doesn’t always work… for example Udyr can just pop turtle stance and ignore you. Once the sustain is gone champs with heavy zoning capabilities will become (even more) dominant. In other words, Orianna and Brand will be even more over powered, Udyr will go back to the jungle, and Corki still won’t be played anymore because his bomb no longer blinds.

I was really suprised how good LeBlanc is mid.
Usually with Mordekaiser 1v1 no problem. But this LeBlanc can harass like no morning.
One of the reasons maybe was, that it was my first time ever facing LeBlanc on the battle field.

Hey guys need a SWOT (Strenght, Weakness, Oportunity, Threads) analysis of LeBlanc.
