Low Level Jungle Series: The Rules of the Game

Posted: November 11, 2011 by kingofgob in Guides, Jungling

So the past two weeks I have been doing videos on how to jungle before summoner level thirty and while getting some footage for my next video I realize there are a few things that I haven’t really spelled out yet.  If you are going to start jungling before max level there are a few rules you should try and follow as best you can.  I know I probably should have written this article first but consider it the zeroth article on low level jungling.

1. Jungle With Friends As Much As Possible

Here’s a bold statement: “Random people suck.” By jungling at low level you are doing something many people will not be familiar with, many people at lower levels won’t really know how to play with a jungler.  Many people are not comfortable soloing a lane against two people  so if you are going to jungle at least try to do it with someone else you know is okay alone.  It’s good practice for them too.  If you don’t have any friends who plat LoL then find a play group in game.  I have a ton of people on my friends list who I don’t personally know but I know are perfectly capable LoL players.  There are lots of people out there just like you who could use a solid partner.

2. Be Polite and Intellegent

This is something that everyone in every game should take note of but 99.99% of players do.  You are doing something that may seem foreign to other players.  People tend to act aggressively against things that are foreign to them.  When you get executed and player x says, “wtf!” (and this will happen) do not take the bait and start railing on him for being 0-3 already.  Simply say, “I’m sorry, I messed up, I’m working on getting better.”  If they continue to act aggressively just ignore them.  You can only get better at jungling by doing it and if the worst you do is die a few times in some random player’s level 16 solo queue then so be it.  This also shows how important rule one is.  Your friends are far less likely to rage on you so it’s one less thing you have to worry about as you learn.

3. Ward, Ward, Ward

Learn this early and you will be a top tier jungler by the time you are fully runed up and level 30.  The first time you kill and enemy trying to kill wraiths quickly before recalling at no health you will know how goof warding can feel.  Wards do so much so just buy them end of story.  (Note this is one of the reasons why Wriggle’s is the best jungle item bar none).

4.  Practice=Perfect

The first time you try a new jungler open up a custom game alone and just try it out a few times.  Familiarize yourself with the abilities.  Test them out, see if there is a fly time on abilities or a small channel before cast.  Run your jungle path a time or two to feel when your abilities should be used.  Does ability a reset my attack timer?  Ask yourself questions like these as you go.  There is nothing better for a jungler than knowing the ins and outs of your champion.

So that’s it for now.  Go out practice and of course have fun.  Next week I think I will be focusing on Trynd since I know he’s a favorite in low level play.  If you have any questions or suggestions for champions you would like to see a video on leave a comment or email me at KingofGob@gmail.com.
