“Beyond The Game” is the slogan of the World Cyber Games, and at the 2011 60 national flags on stageGrand Finals it certainly seems like they’re dedicated to it.  The opening ceremony seemed almost Olympian in it’s seriousness, attention to sportsmanship, and respect for participating countries.  (more…)

WCG 2011 Press Conference

Edit: The press conference was more WCG-related then game-specific, so I don’t have anything pressing to update.  That said, I was able to witness and take some pictures during the opening ceremony and meet a man named Nate from Riot Games.  Somehow, I forgot to speak coherently and give him my business card.  In any case, there are 2 USA-based teams; Dignitas (formerly Rock Solid) and CDE will both be representing the US at WCG 2011.  I’ve included a few pictures, but the matches have yet to start.

Today team Dignitas faces off against MYM in group C. Catch the stream online at the WCG website.

The schedule of events can be found here.

Edit2: According to Riot, CLG and TSM are also participating, but I didn’t see any evidence of that. Maybe I just missed them? I managed to get a picture of the group lineup, which I’ll double-check later.

A Primer on WCG 2011!

Last week, the grand prizes and initial matchups were announced for the World Cyber Games, a major eSports event. No Elo will be there to bring you the best WCG League news on December 10th and 11th.

In the meantime, here’s what we know. The prize pool is split between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. According to the official website, first place receives $25,000, second place gets $6,000, and third picks up $3,000.  Attending WCG from the US is team Dignitas, who will be facing teams such as MYM, Team_RageFace, iG, Siol, Team Acer, Gameburg, and  The event will run from December 8th through the 12th, with matches airing from Noon to around 6 pm, KST.

So far, the only real suprise has been that MYM is bringing with them a member of IEM-winning Fnatic, a player named xPeke.  According to their website, xPeke plays mostly AP heros in solo lanes, so we should see some fantastic mid fights.

Make sure to check out the streams and coverage here, starting on Dec 8th!

Blizzard Dota Impressions (Not Dota 2)

I’m standing in line to play a pre-release version of Dota (at GSTAR, a game conference in Busan, South Korea).  So far, there are 12 heroes, grouped into DPS, Tank, Support, and Siege groups.  They feature big names like Witch Doctor, Nova, Muradin, Arthas, Kerrigan, and more.  Three lanes, tough looking jungle creeps, and no dedicated junglers as we see in LoL.  So far, it looks like a blind pick system.  I should be in the next wave or so of players, so more info and a video then.

So it’s been a while since I’ve posted, faithful No Elo readers.  But I’d like to do a bit of a PSA for the World Cyber Games 2011, or WCG 2011.  They will feature for the a major League of Legends tournament, where players will compete against the best of the best worldwide.  I will be at the event in person, bringing you all the League news, photos, and coverage.
